Stem Cells and their Molecular Regulation

Summary: In this module, we will read original papers describing the discovery of mouse and human embryonic stem cells, the invention of methods to reprogram differentiated cells into induced pluripotent stem cells, and the identification of human cancer stem cells. We will also discuss several studies that describe the molecular mechanisms regulating normal and cancer stem cells. We hope to understand some of the basic concepts, important questions, and unresolved controversies in stem cell biology research.
