| DIRECTIONS
for First-year Students
All first-year students are required to ride buses to the
retreat. Buses will leave from Duke Medical Center parking garage PG
III, on Pratt Street, off Fulton Street. (Click
here for map showing location of PGIII.) Enter through the Patient/Visitor
area. Park in the parking garage. There is no charge for parking; the
gates will be open when students return on Sunday. If taking the bus
is not feasible, please contact Trish McCoy, trish.mccoy@duke.edu.
DIRECTIONS for Faculty & TAs
Please leave plenty of time for the drive
which is approximately 4.5 hours. Dinner will be served at the Marine
Labs Dining Hall beginning at 5:15 pm. The sessions will begin promptly
at 6:30 pm on Friday evening.
- From La Salle turn right onto Erwin, then left onto
Trent. Turn right onto NC 147 (the Durham Freeway) Heading South.
Take 147 until it merges with I-40, East.
- Follow Interstate 40 East to Garner/Smithfield Highway
70 East, Exit 306.
- Follow Highway 70 East all the way to Beaufort (through
Goldsboro—take the by-pass!—and through Kinston, New Bern,
Havelock, and Morehead City). Highway 70 East becomes the main street,
Arendell Street, through Morehead City.
- Continue on Highway 70 East through Morehead City
over a highrise bridge (which crosses the Newport River). From the
base of the bridge, it is .6 miles to the second right turn, which
leads to the Duke University Marine Labs.
- Cross the railroad tracks and go straight over the
very small bridge leading onto Pivers Island. Go straight to the parking
lots at the back of the island.

The Marine Labs are at the number 1 on the first map below,
and are shown in blue with an arrow on the second.
