ETHICS COURSE - 2006

WHAT TO BRING
You and your student TAs will be housed on "the island" at the Marine Labs. The housing has two-three people per room with shared bathroom facilities. Linen and bath towels are provided. However, you should bring personal hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, lotion, etc., as these are not available.

All meals are provided. If you have special dietary requirements, please contact Trish McCoy, trish.mccoy@duke.edu.

We will be going to Shackelford Island by boat on Saturday afternoon.

For the boat trip please BRING COVERED, LACE-UP SHOES that you don't mind getting wet (tevas and sandals are not permitted). Shackelford Island is well known for its wild horses, shells and lovely beaches. The island can be completely crossed in a short 15 to 20 minute hike. So, bring SWIMMING GEAR and a BEACH TOWEL. Once again, don't be surprised to get quite wet while on the boat. PLEASE WEAR COVERED, LACE-UP SHOES. AGAIN, TEVAS AND SANDALS ARE NOT PERMITTED!

It can also get very hot, and there is virtually no shade on Shackelford Island, so please remember to bring SUNBLOCK LOTION (at least SPF 25) and a HAT! We will bring a cooler with drinks, but feel free to take extras if you plan to stray from the group. Mosquitos are often prevalent at this time of year, so don't forget BUG REPELLANT!

The water is a perfect temperature at this time of year (averages are in the upper 70s—yes, that's the water temperature!), so don't hesitate to bring swimming gear.

CLOSED SHOES, SUNBLOCK, AND A HAT!
