PhD Granting Dept Requirements

The CMB Program is not a formal degree-granting program. Instead, upon graduating, students receive a Certificate from the CMB Program and a Ph.D. from one of the Ph.D.-granting Departments or Programs. The Certificate in Cell and Molecular Biology is an honor that will attest to broad training in the field, while the Ph.D. documents the in-depth training in a more particular area of expertise.

CMB students can earn their PhD in any of the Departments and Programs listed below, as long as their research mentor belongs to that group. The choice of PhD-granting Department/Program is made near the end of the first year, after students have chosen their thesis mentor. The Department Affiliation form (PDF link) should be completed and returned to the CMB Program Office at that time.
