Research Summary:
T lymphocyte biology, lymphocyte apoptosis, autophagy, human viral infection, T lymphocyte functional exhaustion
Research Description:

There are two major areas of researches in my lab. The first area is to investigate the roles of apoptosis and autophagy in T lymphocyte function. We have generated various animal models to investigate how the intrinsic and extrinsic death pathways regulate thymocyte development, peripheral T lymphocyte homeostasis and memory T lymphocyte development. We are also investigating the roles of autophagy in T lymphocyte function.

The second area in my lab is to investigate immune functions during chronic viral infections including HBV, HCV and HIV in human. We have collaborated with physicians to investigate the molecular mechanisms of T lymphocyte exhaustion during chronic viral infections. We have identified some key molecular pathways and players that contribute to T lymphocyte functional exhaustion during chronic viral infections including HBV, HCV and HIV.
