Durham choral society
Conducted
by Rodney Wynkoop, the Durham Choral Society offers auditions
each fall, and performances in the fall, winter, and spring.
Durham Arts Council
Located in downtown Durham, the Arts Council offers a variety
of classes in arts including sculpture, drawing, theatre and
photography. Also offers links to the Durham Art walk each
year.
Centerfest
Each September, the Durham Arts Council presents Centerfest,
a festival with local artists, food, and live music.
Ninth Street Dance
Belly dance, break dance, line dance classes in addition
to ballet, jazz, and tap.
American Dance
Festival
Each summer, the American Dance Festival comes to Duke with
performances in Page auditorium. A nationally acclaimed performance
series.
Carolina Ballet
BTI Center for
the Performing Arts
Located in Raleigh, the BTI center includes Memorial Auditorium,
Kennedy Theature, and Meymandi Hall, and hosts Broadway shows
as well as the symphony and individual performers.
NC Symphony
The NC Symphony is based in Raleigh, at Meymandi Hall, but
offers performances in Duke Chapel as well.
The Lincoln Theatre
Located in Raleigh, the Lincoln Theatre hosts a variety of
live shows and presentations.

Umstead
State park
Located between Durham and Raleigh, Umstead State park offers
a large network of trails, many of which are suitable for
biking and horseback riding. Great place for picnics!
Lake Crabtree County park
Lake Crabtree County Park is close by, and hosts the annual
Triangle Triathlon sprint triathlon. There are trails for
mountain biking and hiking, a large lake for fishing and boating,
and many picnic shelters.
Duke
Forest
Duke Forest has multiple divisions throughout Durham and
Chapel Hill. Maps are available for a minimal fee from the
Duke Forest office. The book, Trails of the Triangle,
also contains good descriptions of many of Duke Forest’s
trails. The ~3 mile trail around the Duke Golf Course is
particularly popular and within an easy jog from Research
Drive.
